Class of 2012

November 22nd a congregational meeting was held to elect elders to the class of 2012 and members to the nominating committee for next year. Our new session members are Doug Pfeifler and Raymond Wyers. These gentlemen began their service on January 1, 2010. They will be official installed January 10, 2010. Best wishes on your term in office!

Hanging of the Greens

Once again, the sanctuary was beautiful for Advent and Christmas! Several of us met on November 28th and decorated. Afterwards we had cookies. This year the sanctuary was again decorated with poinsettias. These poinsettias were given in memory of or in honor of people and they graced our sanctuary throughout the season!

Christmas Tea

On December 20th we gathered for our annual Christmas Tea! We had a program of Lessons and Carols (scripture readings and singing). This year the scripture readings were acted out by our youth. Some of our ‘youth’ are out of high school a few years. ‘Youth’ participating included: Collin Taheri, Haley Williams, Emma Lollar, Alex Williams, Brett Lollar, Kay Hurst, Ann Pfeifler, Leslie Griffin, Addy Hunter, Louan Pyron, Bo Baskin, Tracy Julian and David Pyron. The enactment was enhanced by costumes purchased through the generosity of this congregation. We were joined by Susan Pfeifler (our ever faithful pianist), Kenda Woodburn, Cortney Lanphear and Cindy Lanphear who provided special music. Collin, Haley, Emma and Alex lit the congregational candles during the candle lighting. And the McDougal family (Linda McDougal and Collin Taheri) lit the advent wreath for us.

Advent Wreath Lighters

Thanks to Brett and Emma Lollar; Ann Pfeifler and Kenda Woodburn; Steve and Kelsey Self; Ken and Pansy Nelson; Linda McDougal and Collin Taheri for lighting the advent candles this year!!

Harvest Foods Receipts

Please remember that our Presbyterian Women collect cash register receipts from Harvest Foods. The store gives the ladies a rebate on all purchases for which they have receipts. Before the ladies can redeem the receipts they must have a total of $1000 in receipts, so all amounts are important in order to add up to the minimum.

While on the subject of PW, there is plenty of room for more members at our meetings on the second Tuesday of each month. We will meet this month on January 12th at 1:30 at the home of Billie King. Our lesson from Joshua will be “Can War Be Holy?” Can we make sense of the wars of conquest in the book of Joshua? It promises to be an exciting study.

Kitchen Workers Retire

Two of our faithful kitchen workers have decided to “retire” this year. I won’t tell you how they decide when it’s time to retire and I’m not certain what that means. I hope they will continue to share their wonderful food with us at family dinners. Rosemary Harris and Reba Laster retired in 2009. Both have been active members of our kitchen crew for as long as anyone cares to remember. At the Christmas Tea we honored Rosemary and Reba with certificates and a server for each one. Please thank these wonderful women for their years of service .

Souper Bowl of Caring

“More than 20 years ago, the Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single youth group:  Lord, as we enjoy the Suer Bowl foot ball game, help us to be mindful of those without even a bowl of soup to eat.’  Since that day, more than $60 million has been raised for local charities across the country through the Souper Bowl of Caring.  It has become a powerful movement that is transforming Super Bowl weekend into the nation’s largest youth-led weekend of giving and serving.”

Last year we collected an extra 13 cans of goods for the Interfaith Pantry on Souper Bowl Sunday.  Let’s try to better that this year by bringing extra food on February 7, 2010!
